Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong Cultural Centre|SEASONS CADENZA is a musical event with the four seasons as its axis and the Chinese music as its soul.
Description
Introduction to 'The Four Seasons in Splendour' Concert: With flourishing spring and fruitful autumn, music resonates forever. The Concert Hall of Hong Kong Cultural Centre will present a musical extravaganza themed around the four seasons and imbued with the essence of Chinese music — — 'The Four Seasons in Splendour'. Conducted by Wong Chun-yin, the resident conductor of the Grand Shine Chinese Orchestra, and featuring renowned dizi player Ha Siu-cheung, suona virtuoso Cheung Wan-shan, and erhu master Wai Kwun-wa, the concert will paint a sonic scroll that blends tradition with innovation. The programme opens with composer Wong Wan-fei's 'Spring and Autumn', which symbolises the vibrant vitality of artistic cultivation and the rich fruits of cultural heritage. This will be followed by the Hong Kong premieres of three works: the dizi concerto 'Peony Pavilion Suite' recreates the elegant melodies of Kunqu opera and the illusory dreams in Tang Xianzu's masterpiece; the suona capriccio 'Dance of Fire' expresses the ancient pursuit of light along the Silk Road through fervent sounds; and the erhu suite 'Four Seasons' captures the changing seasons with the rhythms of Shaanxi bowl singing, Hebei bangzi opera, Henan Yu opera, and Northeast China's er ren zhuan. From the rainy landscapes of the Jiangnan region to the snowy fields of the northern frontier, and from classical theatrical literature to modern interpretations, 'The Four Seasons in Splendour' is both a celebration of the Earth's seasonal rhythms and an echo of Chinese aesthetics in the contemporary era. In the music, one can find the refined tastes of literati in their gardens, hear the joyous clamour of folk celebrations, and feel the enduring vitality of a millennium-old civilisation. We invite you to join us on this musical journey, listening to the turning of the seasons and savouring the ever-lasting splendour.
